FREE BRISTOL PALIN!
By Chester Shoeshine | September 8, 2008
Please see breaking news here at American Heresy at the Newsblog:
It is our intent, then, to call the ritualized brutalization of women’s bodies and minds what it is: the longest-running and most widespread form of terrorism in the world. We hope to use FreeBristolPalin.com to cut through the hysteria and distraction of Republican campaign games to examine the most extreme terrorist threat to the American homeland: Sarah Palin, John McCain, and the Religious Right.

DEATH, REBIRTH, AND CATASTROPHIC INTENT
By Chester Shoeshine | August 20, 2008
THE CHORA LIVES! AMERICAN HERESY ANNOUNCES ITS 2008-2009 THEME:
WHAT WE DID AFTER: Artists Respond To a World After It Ends
What if the world already ended, and this is what’s left? What have we been waiting for? We have all the same problems, only now they’re worse. Those entrusted with the means and power to solve these problems have only served to replicate those same problems in different areas for different people. What if we shook ourselves loose from the sleepy hangover of cultural indoctrination that tells us that disaster is about to strike, stopped waiting for a savior, and took life into our own hands?
More updates soon, but for now, prepare yourselves. This is about to get very exciting.
News in the Projects realm:
NEW! East Bay Writer’s Group/Jam Sessions: A chorus of separate but synonymous conversations have occurred in the last several weeks, all about the need for the CHORA and writers in general to reconnect. One deliciously successful reading on August 18th spawned several such conversations. Then, Paul Corman-Roberts of such affiliations as Cherry Bleeds and Awaken Café sent out a call for a BART-friendly writer’s group. This reminds us that we still want to create an online bulletin board where you can track your contest and journal submission deadlines and yap at one another, near and far, about your latest progress. Does anyone have a suggestion for decent BB software?
Also, the Shoeshines now live all of four! blocks from 12th St. BART in Oakland. If you’re not on Events News Jobs - and you’d know it if you were - send us an email at cshoeshine(at)americanheresy.com. We’ll let you know when the first Exploratory Brainstorm of Postapocalyptic Glee gets on the calendar.
BLOGGING
Want a chance to have a “Contributing Editor” credit on your resume for only 1-2 hours per week? The time has come. American Heresy: The Newsblog needs more contributors. We want to turn this into a multi-contributor format, much like Slate, Salon, the Gawker empire’s various messes, etc. There will be a meeting in early September to discuss interest, the details, beats, the general direction of the blog, etc. In the meantime, head over to the newsblog to check out some recent posts. If you’re interested, as always, email cshoeshine(at)americanheresy.com.

THE CHORA LAUNCHES NOVEMBER 3!
By Chester Shoeshine | October 11, 2007
From Marisa, one of our Heretics-in-residence:
NOVEMBER 3 IS A VERY AUSPICIOUS DAY for the history of art. We (by ‘we’ I mean we here at Writing & Consciousness Ground Zero) are proud and excited to announce the official kick-off event for our burgeoning collective of radically innovative writers that we have taken the liberty of naming the CHORA after Julia Kristeva’s term for the pre-verbal impulse that prompts the mind to come up with a word.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3
777 VALENCIA ST. (b/w 18th and 19th)
6:30 PM
This time, we are focusing on performative works. Just as we think W&C students, alums, and their collaborators are shaping the future of literature to take many forms, we believe literature itself need not be contained on the page. Think of this as a mass collaborative storm. Munchies and libations to be served. Afterwords, we will be taking our effusive high to a location TBA to brainstorm, interrogate, and inspire one another. The future is arriving faster than we can name it, and it’s got an attitude. Be part of something big. Join the conversation on November 3!
For more information about this event, please email megerstrom(at)newcollege.edu, or contact your local American Heresy representative.

AMERICAN HERESY PRESENTS
By Chester Shoeshine | June 23, 2007

Fawn over doctrinaire speeches of a certain religious homophobe? Do you lean toward male and/or female pleasure in a way that feels suddenly more sexual than you previously imagined? This program of film shorts and performance, cuts through story-telling to it’s surprising, adrenaline-pumping crimson heart. Under the burgeoning auspices of the American Heresy Collective, just-graduated students of the Writing and Consciousness MFA at New College and the San Francisco Art Institute present this 90 minute lineup. Get intimately acquainted with singular new work by young Bay Area writers and artists.
The American Heresy Collective 2007 presents a sexy showcase of Film Video and performance:

Sex Crazy!
By Chester Shoeshine | June 12, 2007
FILM SHOOT SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 17th!
At MAMA CALIZO’S VOICE FACTORY, 5:30 - 7 pm.
Mission St. between S. Van Ness and 11th St. (in the Jon Sims building)
BE THERE. TELL YOUR FRIENDS. Jerry Falwell is dead and so we need queers of all flavors to dress up in whatever drag feels most fabulous. We’re filming the “Queer Dance Party” shots that will illustrate the life, joy, and generous helping of sexiness that the “San Francisco moral perverts” bring to the world (to, ahem, paraphrase Jerry). Come dressed to impress - whatever that means to you - and get a big pride-on. Drinks & snacks provided. For questions, or to just say “Hey, I’ll be there!” please email Chester Shoeshine at cshoeshine@americanheresy.com. Visit www.americanheresy.com for updates.
The official blurb:
“Sex Crazy” is a music video anti-tribute to the late Jerry Falwell. Using cut-up techniques from surrealist poets (such as Tzara, Gysin, and Burroughs) and filmmakers (such as Martin Arnold), this music video is a joyful, sexy revelation of a hidden narrative implied in Falwell’s speeches and sermons. On the event of his passing, we (the American Heresy collective) imagine a world in which human passion, de-criminalized and re-naturalized, is an ecological necessity for a healthy global climate.
“Sex Crazy” will premier June 28th at the Roxie Theater! After that, we’re taking it straight to YouTube. Get ready to get famous!
