Fundies drink own kool-aid, consider third party

    By Dr. Shoeshine | October 2, 2007

Really? You mean some of you people really do think abortion is the only issue that counts when deciding on the most influential office on the planet?

Looks like the fundagelicals trotted out Focus on the Family’s James Dobson (who we don’t link to as a matter of policy) to focus some woman-hating on the likes of Rudy Giuliani. See NPR for more. To wit:

“A significant portion of our constituencies are not going to vote for Rudy Giuliani, and it’s best that you know that now,” Land says. “Because if you’re counting on them coming back and voting for Giuliani as the lesser of two evils, a lot of them aren’t going to do it.”

And all this time, we thought the Grand Old Party’s power brokers were simply playing their people like a cheap harmonica. Would they actually consider pulling a Nader? Or is this all an elaborate ruse? Of course, there are those fundies so pure they refuse to vote at all. Too bad there’s not more of this kind and less of the “kill Rudy, we’ll take Mitt if we have to” kind.

By the way, we’re still wondering who engineered the whole “Rudy wore a dress! Oh noes!” media flop, and how it got buried so quickly.

The consternation over the poor showings in the latest pre-primary who-hates-women-the-most pissing contest comes right on the heels of a report by the Pew folks, who tell us that younger white evangelicals are less likely to call themselves Republicans, even though they still basically do:

There was nearly a four-to-one edge in the number of younger white evangelicals who identified themselves as Republicans compared to those that said they were Democrats in 2005. Now, in 2007, Republicans have only a two-to-one edge over Democrats among younger white evangelicals.

But don’t worry, says the Christian Post, they’re still conservative. The three- and four-to-one people mostly went independent, not Dem. Given the third-party talk from the hard core haterz, could this mean that Hitler Youth young, idealistic warriors for Christ might be the the force behind a third party movement that would –

Well, what would a conservative third party do? Would it separate the psycho zealots from the CEOs who really just want to stick it to the workers? Would it cripple the Right as we know it? Would it not matter at all? The worst we can think of is that the Extra Fundie Party would carry a few Congressional seats and proceed to filibuster the living sense out of everything.

We used to think Decision 2008 was America’s chance to decide who we hate more: women or black folks. Perhaps the question is now “have the values voters completely lost their minds?”
