PROJECTS
We have several projects under development at American Heresy. Anything interest you? Email cshoeshine(at)americanheresy.com for more information.
BLOGGING
Want a chance to have a “Contributing Editor” credit on your resume for only 1-2 hours per week? The time has come. American Heresy: The Newsblog needs more contributors. We want to turn this into a multi-contributor format, much like Slate, Salon, the Gawker empire’s various messes, etc. There will be a meeting in early September to discuss interest, the details, beats, the general direction of the blog, etc. In the meantime, head over to the newsblog to check out some recent posts. If you’re interested, as always, email cshoeshine(at)americanheresy.com.
MUSIC
You can hear our current music projects at the American Heresy Myspace page.
VIDEO
We’re trying to develop the music projects into music video projects. For more about our first video, “Sex Crazy,” click here. The newest video, “Elizabeth’s Dithyramb,” is stuck on the American Heresy hard drive until it can find a souped-up Mac with Final Cut Pro for final edits. Got a G5 lying around? We could use it — real bad.
WRITING
Still under development is the writing forum, a place for writers to help each other set goals and deadlines for the development of their manuscripts/chapbooks/scripts. We are currently looking for people interested in moderating a writing community forum. This forum is part of the CHORA, a group of writers out of the Writing & Consciousness scene at New College of California, whose interests are quite similar to those of the Society of Heretics.
NEW! East Bay Writer’s Group/Jam Sessions: A chorus of separate but synonymous conversations have occurred in the last several weeks, all about the need for the CHORA and writers in general to reconnect. One deliciously successful reading on August 18th spawned several such conversations. Then, Paul Corman-Roberts of such affiliations as Cherry Bleeds and Awaken Café sent out a call for a BART-friendly writer’s group. This reminds us that we still want to create an online bulletin board where you can track your contest and journal submission deadlines and yap at one another, near and far, about your latest progress. Does anyone have a suggestion for decent BB software?
Also, the Shoeshines now live all of four! blocks from 12th St. BART in Oakland. If you’re not on Events News Jobs - and you’d know it if you were - send us an email at cshoeshine(at)americanheresy.com. We’ll let you know when the first Exploratory Brainstorm of Postapocalyptic Glee gets on the calendar.
STAGE
Finally, we are looking for video artists, A/V professionals, musicians and choreographers for a “feature-length” stage production of The Machine (working title), which is a multimedia percussive exploration of performance, piety, and violence. This symphonically-structured piece includes “Elizabeth’s Dithyramb” (a video/live action piece about the violent American fetishizing of sexualized purity), a rewritten Puritan hymn from the early 1800s about the TSA guidelines, percussive poetry, large drums made from reclaimed objects, and the Robot of History (soprano).
